I created a beautiful and peaceful space in my home, where I can enjoy the stunning view of Wallowa Lake and the surrounding mountains. By incorporating open door windows, I have made the most of the natural beauty of the area, and allowed myself to feel like I could still be on vacation even when I'm at home. Looking out my 'windows' I can almost feel my home is on the shores of Wallowa Lake. I do live in Wallowa County but Wallowa Lake is still 30 miles away. While enjoying WALLOWA LAKE SAILING AWAY in my home, it's almost like being there when I can't.

Being able to enjoy the view of small quiet sailboat on Wallowa Lake, and the snow-capped mountains each day can certainly provide a sense of tranquility and joy. It's wonderful that I have created a space for myself where I can experience this. Taking time to savor my morning coffee in this setting is a great way to start my day with a sense of calm and appreciation for the natural world.

Creating a special home that feels like a retreat or vacation spot is quite rejuvenating. By immersing myself in the beauty of the area, I'm also connecting with nature and finding a sense of peace and serenity.

My business is Debbie L Lind, Photoartisan and I've been a photographer for over 45 years. I continue to grow into my craft and continue to call it my happy place. When I'm behind my camera and then process my photographs, I'm there. The trip to photograph Wallowa Lake, (about a 30 min. drive) located in Northeastern Oregon, was twofold as not only the lake was almost empty of people but two young men were setting up a sailboat.

It's early spring with some snow still on the mountains surrounding Wallowa Lake. The morning sun set the scene but the bonus was the sailboat. I photographed my landscape shots of the lake and was ready to leave, but then I saw two young men unload a small sailboat. I watched patiently while they were setting it up to see what it would look like sailing alone on a peaceful, calm, hardly a ripple mass of water. There were just a handful of people enjoying the shore of the lake, but I saw no one with a boat on the water. I hoped to catch a magical shot of the sailboat floating along without a care in the world.

I was in competition with the sun and if it would cooperate with me to take the photo. Soon the small sailboat was launched on the lake. I watched and got in position for the composition of the lake, boat, and mountains.

Catching the sailboat on Wallowa Lake with little people around and no one else on the lake is rare. The warmer it gets the more people visit the lake. It is a breathtaking sight to see. I'm glad I was timely to catch this unique scene.

I took many photos of the sailboat going back and forth and chose one shot that wouldn't compete with the stunning mountains and the crystal clear blue waters of the lake. I kept thinking of that song by Christopher Cross SAILING AWAY and I chose this name for my photograph.

Getting home and downloading my SD card was exciting. I parked myself in front of my computer and started processing my photos. I captured a part of Christopher Cross's song, at least that is how I felt.

How can one create more beauty to a place like Wallowa Lake? I find my ways are a backdrop to Wallowa Lake and put my spin on it. It has many personalities to express and I try to catch as many as I can.

I always strive to take the best photograph to tell the best story of where I've been and maybe someone else will like my story and want to bring it home with them. Some of us live here, some visit, but we all want to take home a memory of where we've been. May SAILING AWAY be a memory you can bring home.
