My Name is Debbie and I've been a photographer for over 45 years. I've photographed weddings, flowers, oceans, animals, people, children, rocks, landscapes, odd n ends of inspiration but for the first time, I photographed a local rodeo. The action packed arena of horses, cows, bulls, and lots and lots of cowboys and cowgirls riding fast horses and kicking up dirt excite the crowd. Not only are the cowboys and cowgirls athletes, but so are the broncs and bulls. My camera was clicking and took hundreds of photos in the heart of the action. It was a fun experience.

The one goal of the bronc and bull riders, as you may know, is to stay on the wild beast for 8 seconds. And getting off a bucking bronc is no picnic and no extra points if his hat stayed on. In other events, time is the winner and the less time it takes to wrangle a doggy the better. The rodeo and the skills used on the range became a sport. I'm not from that rodeo world, but watching it live I don't see how even a professional football player could wrestling down a cow with or without horns.

I admire such spirit in this sport and how it is accomplished during rodeo events is done with skill, precision, and being brave. Many fail and a few don't. Regardless, they all get back on the horse whether it's wild or not and wait for another chance to ride the wild beasts.

Now, imagine you're in the grandstands watching your local rodeo:

Ladies and gentlemen, gather 'round and tighten those saddle cinches because we've got a cowboy stepping into the arena with grit and determination! This fella's not just here for the show; he's here to dance with a wild, bucking bronc and show us what true cowboy mettle is all about.

Now, when that gate swings open, and that bronc bursts into the arena, the cowboy's got one mission: stay on for a full 8 seconds. It may sound like a mere heartbeat, but when you're straddling a creature with the heart of thunder, those seconds can feel like an eternity. The judges are looking for control, style, and that perfect blend of finesse and rugged toughness.

Before our cowboy even nods his head, he's been prepping for this showdown. It's not just about sitting in the saddle; it's about becoming one with the rhythm of the beast beneath him. He's studied the bronco's moves, its quirks, and its unpredictable twists and turns. The real pros know it's not just a physical game; it's a mental one too.

As that chute gate swings wide, the tension mounts, and our cowboy bursts into the arena with the kind of bravery that echoes through the ages. The bronc bucks and twists, trying its darndest to shake him loose, but this cowboy's got more than just a saddle tying him down; he's got a heart full of grit and a mind sharp as a cactus spine.

Watch closely, folks, as he shifts his weight, matching every move of that bronc with the precision of a seasoned dancer. It's a symphony of strength and skill as they move as one, defying gravity and testing the limits of cowboy prowess.

But it's not just about staying on; it's about making it look damn good. A true cowboy shows emotion in the midst of chaos – whether it's a confident grin or a determined scowl, every expression tells a story. The crowd feels every jolt and sees every nuance of the struggle etched on the cowboy's face.

Now, as those 8 seconds tick away, our cowboy brings it home with a dismount that would make a cat jealous. Dust flies, hooves thunder, and the crowd erupts into cheers. The judges, well, they've got their scores, but in the hearts of the crowd, our cowboy is a champion.

So, tip your hats, folks, to the cowboy who tamed the untamable, danced with the wildest partner in the arena, and showed us all what it means to ride high in the saddle with true grit and cowboy pride!
