IN THE HEART OF TWIN FALLS IDAHO: A LOVE LETTER TO AMERICA

My husband and I planned to visit Twin Falls, Idaho on our way to Moab. While there, we noticed a gigantic American Flag flying over the Snake River. Why?

We didn't know that a 911 memorial was taking place. The timing of our arrival led us to view the memorial was touching, emotional, and we were glad to take in the event. We were moved by the deep sense of patriotism and knowing that, even in our most broken moments, we are capable of standing strong together. The many men and women who lost their lives and those who still feel the pain of that day, will always be remembered by honoring them. The America spirit lives.

The year had been hard, burdened by division, the weight of a fractured world pressing down on the hearts of many. As the anniversary of September 11th approached, Angela Johnson couldn't ignore the sorrow that settled over her. Twin Falls, a town she loved, had no memorial planned, no gathering to remember the day that had shaken the world.

Angela felt compelled to act. It began as a simple, quiet longing—to bring people together. She spent her own money on flags, reaching out to neighbors, hoping they would join her. What she envisioned was a moment of unity, where families could stand side by side, waving their flags, and honoring the lives lost.

Her heartfelt desire ignited a spark. The local police, fire departments, and community members responded with overwhelming support. On that day, under the open sky of the Perrine Bridge, they stood united. The national anthem soared, and a flag, unfurled by firefighters, draped from the bridge’s heart. Tears flowed not just for what was lost, but for the hope and strength rekindled in their shared patriotism.

And as the next year came, so did the desire to make it more. Angela’s dream grew, drawing in the National Guard, the Air Force, local officials, and even United Way. What had begun in one woman’s heart was now a movement—bringing hope, healing, and unity to Idaho. This was their moment to stand together, stronger, united.

A few facts about the American flag that hung over the Snake River in Twin Falls, Idaho. It's 180'x78', 11,800 square feet, each star is 5' wide, each stripe is 6' wide, and 400 pounds.~

My photograph shows the American flag draped across the Snake River whipping in the wind as the sun goes down. The pride of America lit up and honor was ignited as well. The American flag was not left in the dark as lights were projected onto the flag and glowed with pride as the black sky flickered with stars. It was spellbinding and emotional to be in the presence of the American flag, regardless of the size, it brings the honor it to all who had fallen, all who had fought, all who are still in pain to keep America free and strong. Standing there watching our American flag wave, was saying to me 'you are free because of me'.
