New Species of Butterfly

I have been a self-taught photographer for over 45 years and grew to love photographing landscapes, flowers, being creative and no weddings will I photograph. Kind of like I don't
want to be a surgeon but I'm glad there are people who want to.

I designed FOXY LADY using photographs I took of Bleeding Hearts and a Fox Glove. Hint the name FOXY LADY. I was inspired to create using fractals by reading a children's book
about shapes. With all the other shapes we all know and love, especially hearts, on the last page it showed what fractals were, repeating shapes. Like trees in nature and what we grow
like cauliflower. One big head of cauliflower morphs into little cauliflowers as it's pulled apart, but doesn't change its shape. Math lesson over.

To design a butterfly from flowers is challenging but I have fun being this creative. I've experimented with masks, leaves, fish, and other flowers.

I start with the photo, a pattern of sorts and try to keep the new butterfly species I'm creating with the basic legs and antennas like real ones have. From there, it's all my mind doing
the work of an artist with my own paintbrush and canvas, I call my computer.

Some of my insects don't happen as I just can't get the shape, flowers to cooperate so I have to let it go. Sometimes I go back to it and it works out.

I have created a collection of fractal butterflies, moths, dragonflies and other new species. My first fractal butterfly BUTTERFLY BLOOMS won first place in my first professional show at the Wallowa Festival of Arts in Joseph, Oregon.

I'm my own biggest fan but I hope I can gain a following of fans. I photograph for myself first and get creative from my heart next and it's a rewarding feeling to have my artwork give others joy. Fractals are also calming towards our wellbeing and I didn't know this until I started to construct them in my artwork.
